Semi-Slav Defence
MICOS Opening Group D06.SE – Semi-Slav Defence begins with 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Nf3 c6. Black combines the solid central structure of the Queen’s Gambit Declined with the …c6 support characteristic of the Slav Defence. The pawns on c6 and e6 reinforce the d5-pawn while giving Black a resilient position from which to prepare active counterplay.
The Semi-Slav Defence can produce both strategically complex and highly tactical positions. Central pawn breaks, piece coordination and the timing of Black’s development are often critical as both sides compete for activity around the centre.
