Russian Game

MICOS Opening Group C17.RU – Russian Game begins with 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6. Also widely known as Petrov’s Defence, Black immediately develops the king’s knight and counterattacks White’s e4-pawn rather than directly defending the e5-pawn. This symmetrical approach creates a sound position based on active development, central control and accurate piece coordination.

The Russian Game has a reputation for solidity, but its balanced structure can still produce strategically complex play and tactical opportunities. Both sides need precision and patience as the position develops, with pawn structure, piece activity and well-timed central play often becoming important.
