Modern Benoni

MICOS Opening Group E08.MB – Modern Benoni begins with 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 e6. Black challenges White’s advanced central pawn structure with …e6, accepting a spatial disadvantage in return for opportunities to create active counterplay. The resulting asymmetry gives both sides distinct strategic plans and frequently produces complex positions.

The Modern Benoni can lead to sharp battles where pawn breaks, piece activity and control of key central squares are especially important. White often uses the central space advantage to build an initiative, while Black seeks dynamic counterplay through queenside activity and well-timed central or kingside pawn advances.
