Evans Gambit
MICOS Opening Group C11.EV – Evans Gambit begins with 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.b4. White offers the b-pawn to gain time for rapid development, establish a strong centre and increase attacking pressure against Black’s position, particularly the vulnerable f7-square. Ideas involving Ba3 can also make it more difficult for Black to secure the king by castling.
The Evans Gambit can lead to sharp tactical positions where initiative, development and attacking momentum are central to White’s strategy. It has a long history in attacking chess and was famously used by Bobby Fischer to defeat Reuben Fine in just 17 moves in their 1963 game.
