Caro-Kann Defence

MICOS Opening Group B02.CK – Caro–Kann Defence begins with 1.e4 c6. The Caro–Kann is a well-established defence against the King’s Pawn Opening and often leads to solid positions where Black aims for a sound pawn structure and favourable endgame prospects. The opening is named after Horatio Caro and Marcus Kann, who analysed it in the 19th century. Kann famously used the Caro–Kann Defence to defeat Jacques Mieses in 17 moves at the German Chess Congress in Hamburg in 1885.
