How to Set Up a Chess Position with MICOS SETUP

MICOS SETUP lets you create, edit, load, analyze and play from custom chess positions directly on the interactive chessboard. You can place pieces manually, load a FEN position, choose the side to move, analyze with Stockfish and save your played game as a PGN file.

🔵 Desktop: Drag and drop pieces directly onto the chessboard, drag existing pieces to new squares, or click a piece and then click a square.

🔵 Mobile: Tap a piece and then tap a square to place it on the chessboard.

🔵 Clear Board removes all pieces from the chessboard.

🔵 Start Position restores the normal chess starting position.

🔵 Turn Remove Piece From Board ON, then click or tap a piece on the board to remove it. Turn it OFF again to continue setting up the position.

🔵 The indicator below the board shows whether it is White to move or Black to move.

🔵 Paste a FEN position from another chess website or program, then click Load FEN.

🔵 Click Copy FEN to copy the current chess position for use in other chess programs or websites.

🔵 Set up any chess position you want to analyze, study or play from.

🔵 Turn on GAP to analyze the position with the Stockfish chess engine.

🔵 Choose a playing strength: Beginner, Club Player, Master Player, or Grandmaster.

🔵 Choose whether you want to play ⚪ White or ⚫ Black, then click ✅ Play to begin the game from the current position.

🔵 During a game, click 🛠️ Setup to return to Chessboard Editor mode.

🔵 Click 📥 Download PGN to save your played game for later replay, analysis or continued play in MICOS GAP.

🔵 The downloaded PGN includes the game up to the position currently displayed. To download the full game, go to the final position first.

🔵 Import the PGN into MICOS GAP to analyze the game with variations, add comments or continue moving the pieces manually.
